Where It All Began

I’m the youngest of four girls, and growing up, hard work wasn’t just encouraged — it was expected. My dad ran his own business and set the tone for what showing up and putting in the effort looked like. In our house, taking a day off school just didn’t happen. That mindset was built into me from early on, and honestly, I’m so grateful for it. It taught me to push through, stay committed, and take pride in whatever I do.

Salon Educator Australia

School really wasn’t for me, socially I excelled but the class room overwhelmed me.

I knew from a young age that I was just passing time at school. I loved science, art and sport. If you could get a A+ for chatting or for high volume of late notes I would have been dux of the school.

Like everything in life you learn as you grow and my creativity with colour started young.

I would go buy paint and just mix colours on paper. I adored what you could create with colour and how each tone had a purpose. There was no point of buying me dolls because they would all end up hairless in my bedroom salon.

Year 10 came around and I already had a job as a Saturday girl in salon. My parents would drive me around just so I could be in that environment.

How empowering it felt to chat freely, make people feel beautiful in such a creative space. Hair was for me and I made a promise to myself and my dad I was going to be the best.

Blonde Specialist NSW

I forced my parents to get me out of school in year 10! Or should I say begged.

I said MUM & DAD if you let me leave to try and find an apprenticeship I’m going to be the best hairdresser in the world. Signing out of that school was the best day ever, I remember it like it was yesterday. Catch ya later, I’m outta here!

Dressed in black, I caught the train to the coolest salon I knew! Total Bliss. I was lucky enough to be hired 3 days after I left school

Rosa was an incredible mentor and still to this day she is apart of my life & I’m forever grateful for her guidance. I could thank a million people but she believed in me and still to this day does. So I thank her for making me strong, capable and as resilient as I am today.

Every challenge and triumph along the way taught me something. I’ve learned to grow from my mistakes, and when the wins come, I tuck them in my back pocket and keep moving forward — always steering in the right direction.

At 19 I was a fully qualified hairstylist & oh boy did that certificate make me feel like a queen.

I was tested, challenged but I never gave up. I put my heart and soul into hair and still have clients in my chair from the age of 17 until this day. My clients have become my lifeline through parts of my life.

They have watched me grow from the bleached blonde little fire cracker who could pass for baby spice into the woman I am today.

I didn’t have all the answers, but I knew one thing for sure: I was going to be the best mum I could be, and give that little human the very best of me.

She gave me a whole new fire for life. The truth is, every big move I’ve made since has been for her.

Motherhood changes you. It makes you stronger, softer, more determined. Zara became my shining light — and she’s been part of my story every step of the way.

She’s 14 now. And what a story it’s been.

I saw the Northern Lights before I even knew what they were. I travelled deep into the Arctic Circle where the sun never set, and crossed oceans to the Caribbean, New York, Canada — you name it, I saw it. I had the time of my life.

After three unforgettable years at sea, life shifted again.

I headed to Europe for what I thought would be a three-month break with my daughter’s father. I was 23, living the dream… and then, along came a tiny heartbeat. 🥰

My first daughter. My everything.

As much as I loved ship life, I knew it was time to come home to Australia and become a mum.

Everyone around me said, No way! Amy? A baby? So young? With the best job ever?

But I knew deep down — this was my next chapter.

I was in charge of the entire spa and fitness centre.

It was a steep learning curve — our previous managers were awful — but I led with heart. I made it my mission to learn fast, manage well, and lift the team. Together, we rose to the top in sales across the fleet.

Going Global to Grounded

So it was time to set sail.

Mum and Dad were probably thinking, “What the heck is she doing now?” — but they were, as always, supportive.

I had applied for a job overseas to work on cruise ships. It was my golden ticket: a chance to do hair, meet people, and see the world.

I got the job. I flew to London. And that was the beginning of my career at sea — and my journey around the world at the same speed as time itself.

I started out as a hairstylist, then moved into barbering. Before long, they realised, this girl can do more. Just six months into my first contract, I was promoted to manager aboard one of Princess Cruises’ five-star liners.
